To be honest, I seldom do that. I mean when I get a new machine I would try to press some buttons and see how it work. And I try to know the functions by myself instead of looking the instructions. I think I can do it.

I think it really depends the situation. I mean, if I got some simple devices, I think I can exploit its functions by myself. It's simple for me. But if the devices are really expensive, I think it is really useful to watch the instructions, make sure I want to make wrong with it.
