Conversation

Part 1

Examiner

Do you like reading?

Candidate

Yes I do. I often read a variety of genres of fix. Like I often read comics and novels and some textbooks about medicine. Those were really inspiring and sometimes eye opening so I really enjoy reading often.

Examiner

Do you prefer to read on paper or on a screen?

Candidate

I definitely prefer to read books on paper because it's easier to read and it's really comfortable and umm, it's soft to my eyes and sometimes I if I read books on screen, uh, my eyes usually get.

Examiner

When do you need to read carefully, and when not?

Candidate

Well, sometimes I have some opportunity to read very carefully. For example if I need to make apartment contract. In that case I need to read very carefully because those texts would be very important for any making.

Examiner

Do you prefer scanning or detailed reading?

Candidate

Well, it depends on what kind of genres of the books. Generally speaking, I prefer scanning if I read comics or novels, but if I read textbooks, in that case I prefer detailed reading because it's easier to understand.

Part 1

Do you like reading?

Score: 72.0

Suggestion: 回答は肯定から始まっており内容も豊富ですが、文法ミスと冗長さがあります。語順や単語選択("genres of fix"→"genres of fiction")、時制の一貫性、文の繋がりを改善してください。具体的には:1) トピック文を明確に短くする(例:"Yes, I do." の後にすぐ主旨)2) 支持情報は2文以内に収め、接続語("for example", "such as", "and")で論理的に繋げる。3) 過去形と現在形を混在させない("Those were"→"They are")。

Example: Yes, I do. I often read various kinds of fiction, such as comics and novels, and occasionally medical textbooks. For example, medical texts are eye-opening because they explain interesting facts about the human body, while comics and novels help me relax.

Do you prefer to read on paper or on a screen?

Score: 60.0

Suggestion: 意図は伝わりますが、発言が曖昧で言い直しや音声の詰まり("umm", "uh")が多く、文が未完了です。IELTSでははっきりした理由と例を一つ示すこと、沈黙や言い直しを避けることが重要です。具体的には:1) 「理由+例」の構成で1〜2文に収める。2) 繋ぎ言葉("because", "for example", "so")を使う。3) 言い淀みを減らし、文を完結させる練習をする。

Example: I prefer reading on paper because it feels more comfortable and causes less eye strain. For example, when I read on a screen for a long time, my eyes become tired and dry, so I usually choose printed books for long reading sessions.

When do you need to read carefully, and when not?

Score: 65.0

Suggestion: 回答の意図は明確ですが、語法や語順が不自然で語彙選択が正確でありません("make apartment contract"→"sign an apartment lease/contract")。また、不要な言葉("sometimes I have some opportunity")を削ぎ落とし、より自然な表現にする必要があります。具体的には:1) トピック文を直接述べる("I need to read carefully when...")。2) 具体例の語句を正しくする("signing a lease")。3) 理由を簡潔に述べる。

Example: I need to read very carefully when I have to sign a lease for an apartment because the contract contains important terms and obligations. For routine or casual reading, like browsing social media, I usually skim instead.

Do you prefer scanning or detailed reading?

Score: 75.0

Suggestion: 構成は良く、比較もできていますが語彙と表現を少し調整するとより自然になります("genres of the books"→"the genre"、繰り返し表現の削減)。また「because it's easier to understand」はやや曖昧なので具体的な理由を一つ追加すると説得力が増します。具体的には:1) 一文目で条件を明確にする。2) それぞれの好みについて短い理由を述べる。3) 接続語を適切に使う。

Example: It depends on the genre. Generally, I skim comics and novels to follow the story quickly, but I read textbooks in detail because I need to understand complex concepts and remember the information.

Grammar

14:Incorrect use of quantifiers

× I often read a variety of genres of fix.

I often read a variety of genres of fiction.

The word 'fix' is incorrect; likely intended 'fiction', a noun that fits here. Also 'a variety of genres of fiction' is more natural than 'genres of fiction'. Use 'of' once: 'a variety of fiction genres.'

1:Singular and plural issue

× Like I often read comics and novels and some textbooks about medicine.

I often read comics, novels, and some medical textbooks.

Use plural forms consistently and natural word order. 'Textbooks about medicine' is acceptable but 'medical textbooks' is more natural. Add commas for list clarity.

6:Present tense issue

× Those were really inspiring and sometimes eye opening so I really enjoy reading often.

They are really inspiring and sometimes eye-opening, so I really enjoy reading often.

Shift past tense 'were' to present 'are' to match ongoing preference 'enjoy'. Use hyphen in 'eye-opening' and place commas to separate clauses. 'Enjoy reading often' is okay; 'often enjoy reading' is also possible.

6:Present tense issue

× I definitely prefer to read books on paper because it's easier to read and it's really comfortable and umm, it's soft to my eyes and sometimes I if I read books on screen, uh, my eyes usually get.

I definitely prefer to read books on paper because it's easier and much more comfortable; it's gentler on my eyes. If I read books on a screen, my eyes usually get tired.

Sentence fragments and tense consistency problems. 'It's soft to my eyes' is unidiomatic — use 'gentler on my eyes'. Complete the conditional 'If I read... my eyes usually get tired.' Also remove filler words and redundant 'read'.

26:Sentence structure errors

× Well, sometimes I have some opportunity to read very carefully.

Well, sometimes I have the opportunity to read very carefully.

Use 'the opportunity' or 'an opportunity' instead of 'some opportunity'. 'Sometimes I have the opportunity' is natural word order.

26:Sentence structure errors

× For example if I need to make apartment contract.

For example, if I need to sign a rental contract for an apartment.

Sentence fragment lacking verb; 'make apartment contract' is incorrect collocation. Use 'sign a rental contract' or 'sign an apartment lease'. Include commas after an introductory phrase.

6:Present tense issue

× In that case I need to read very carefully because those texts would be very important for any making.

In that case, I need to read very carefully because those texts are very important for any decision or agreement.

Mix of conditional/modal 'would' is incorrect here; use present 'are' to state importance. 'For any making' is ungrammatical — specify 'decision or agreement'.

11:Incorrect use of prepositions

× Well, it depends on what kind of genres of the books.

Well, it depends on what kind of books they are.

Awkward preposition and article use: 'genres of the books' is unnatural. Simplify to 'what kind of books' or 'what genre the books are.'

26:Sentence structure errors

× Generally speaking, I prefer scanning if I read comics or novels, but if I read textbooks, in that case I prefer detailed reading because it's easier to understand.

Generally speaking, I prefer scanning when I read comics or novels, but if I'm reading textbooks, I prefer detailed reading because it's easier to understand.

Maintain consistent tense and avoid redundant phrases like 'in that case'. Use 'when' instead of 'if' for habitual actions and 'I'm reading' to match context. Remove repetitive 'in that case'.
