Part 1
Examiner
Do you like reading?
Candidate
Well, I like reading, to be honest with you. I read occasionally now, but two years ago that wasn't the case. I was a person who would get a headache as soon as I picked up a book, unless it was a pictorial book. When I was reading, I couldn't focus for long. Books felt tedious back then.
Examiner
Do you prefer to read on paper or on a screen?
Candidate
To be frank, because I am highly nearsighted, I couldn't risk on reading on screens for too long each day. My eyes get tired easily, so I prefer reading from physical books on a daily basis. They're more gentler on my eyes.
Examiner
When do you need to read carefully, and when not?
Candidate
Well, it really depends. When I'm reading something important like school papers, contract details I would definitely read carefully because they matter. But when I'm reading for fun, like reading a novel, I really like to skim through to get the whole idea quickly.
Examiner
Do you prefer scanning or detailed reading?
Candidate
Generally, I prefer to skim through articles to get the main idea quickly. Since I'm highly myopic. I can't read for too long, my eyes get tired easily. But when I'm doing something important like studying or writing academic articles, I've definitely choose detailed reading.
Do you like reading?
Example: Yes, I do. I read occasionally now, although two years ago I rarely read because I often got headaches when I tried. Now I enjoy reading short fiction and non-fiction articles, for example I recently finished a collection of short stories that I found engaging and easy to finish in one sitting.
Do you prefer to read on paper or on a screen?
但出现小语法和用词问题(如“couldn't risk on reading”,“more gentler”冗余,“on a daily basis”可简化)。
Example: I prefer paper books because I'm very nearsighted and screens tire my eyes quickly. For instance, I usually read physical books at home, but if I'm traveling I might use an e-reader with adjustable font size to reduce eye strain.
When do you need to read carefully, and when not?
Example: It depends: for important texts like school papers or contracts I read carefully and take notes to avoid mistakes. However, when I read novels for pleasure I tend to skim chapters to grasp the plot quickly and save time.
Do you prefer scanning or detailed reading?
应与前句合并),并修正时态和词形(“I've definitely choose”应为“I definitely choose”或“I definitely choose detailed reading”/“I choose detailed reading”)。
Example: I usually scan articles to catch the main idea because my eyes get tired quickly, but when I'm studying or writing academic papers I read in detail, underline key points and re-read difficult sections to ensure I understand them fully.
× I like reading, to be honest with you.
✓ I like reading, to be honest.
句子中原文“to be honest with you”虽然不是严格的语法错误,但口语中常用简短的“to be honest”更自然,且避免不必要的冗余。因此建议简化为“I like reading, to be honest.”(更地道)。
× I read occasionally now, but two years ago that wasn't the case.
✓ I read occasionally now, but two years ago that wasn't the case.
× I was a person who would get a headache as soon as I picked up a book, unless it was a pictorial book.
✓ I was someone who would get a headache as soon as I picked up a book, unless it was a picture book.
× When I was reading, I couldn't focus for long.
✓ When I was reading, I couldn't focus for long.
× Books felt tedious back then.
✓ Books felt tedious back then.
× To be frank, because I am highly nearsighted, I couldn't risk on reading on screens for too long each day.
✓ To be frank, because I am highly nearsighted, I couldn't risk reading on screens for too long each day.
同时“reading on screens”中第二个“on”保留用于“on screens”。
× They're more gentler on my eyes.
✓ They're gentler on my eyes.
× When I'm reading something important like school papers, contract details I would definitely read carefully because they matter.
✓ When I'm reading something important, like school papers or contract details, I would definitely read carefully because they matter.
× But when I'm reading for fun, like reading a novel, I really like to skim through to get the whole idea quickly.
✓ But when I'm reading for fun, like reading a novel, I really like to skim through to get the general idea quickly.
“the whole idea”不如“the general idea”地道;此外原句结构正确。建议使用更自然的表达“get the general idea”。
× Generally, I prefer to skim through articles to get the main idea quickly.
✓ Generally, I prefer to skim through articles to get the main idea quickly.
× Since I'm highly myopic. I can't read for too long, my eyes get tired easily.
✓ Since I'm highly myopic, I can't read for too long; my eyes get tired easily.
× But when I'm doing something important like studying or writing academic articles, I've definitely choose detailed reading.
✓ But when I'm doing something important like studying or writing academic articles, I definitely choose detailed reading.
因此改为“I definitely choose detailed reading”。
