Part 1
Examiner
Do you like reading?
Candidate
Well, I just love reading. When I was growing up I spent almost every day in my room just read novels. And now I'm growing up I don't have so many time to do the serious reading. So I spent a lot of time reading a workplace regulation. It's fun though.
Examiner
Do you prefer to read on paper or on a screen?
Candidate
I prefer to read on paper because reading on the paper won't damage your eyesight and it also helps you concentrate. I am having a hard time concentrating when I was reading on the screen, so definitely on paper.
Examiner
When do you need to read carefully, and when not?
Candidate
I would say when I am studying for a exam, reading a textbook or studying our workplace regulations because when you're reading these materials, the smallest mixed up could cause huge problems. But I will be relaxed reading novels.
Examiner
Do you prefer scanning or detailed reading?
Candidate
Definitely detailed reading. If I'm not interested in these materials, I wouldn't spend a lot of time reading them. And I was scanning and scanning doesn't feel like you're learning something or you're taking new information, it just you're don't know what to do.
Do you like reading?
- 修正动词形式和数量(例如“read novels”应为“reading novels”,“so many time”应为“so much time”)。
Example: I love reading. When I was growing up, I spent almost every day in my room reading novels. Now I don’t have as much time, so I mostly read workplace regulations about safety procedures, which I find surprisingly interesting.
Do you prefer to read on paper or on a screen?
建议: - 保持时态一致(例如“I have a hard time concentrating when I read on screens”)。
Example: I prefer reading on paper because it helps me concentrate better and I don’t get distracted by notifications. For example, when I study from a printed book I can focus for longer periods and take notes in the margins.
When do you need to read carefully, and when not?
建议: - 修正冠词和短语(“a exam”→“an exam”;“smallest mixed up”→“a small mistake”或“the smallest mix-up”)。
Example: I need to read carefully when I’m studying for an exam or reading workplace regulations, because even a small mistake in procedures could lead to safety issues. By contrast, I relax when I read novels and focus more on enjoyment than accuracy.
Do you prefer scanning or detailed reading?
- 修正语法(例如“I wouldn’t spend”保持时态一致;“scanning doesn’t feel like I’m learning”)。
Example: I prefer detailed reading because it helps me understand and remember information. I only scan documents when I’m looking for a specific fact, but scanning rarely helps me learn new ideas in depth.
× When I was growing up I spent almost every day in my room just read novels.
✓ When I was growing up I spent almost every day in my room just reading novels.
× And now I'm growing up I don't have so many time to do the serious reading.
✓ And now that I'm grown up I don't have so much time to do serious reading.
解释(简体中文):原句“I’m growing up”用法不当,表示现在正在成长,但说话者想表达“现在已经长大”;应使用“grown up”或“an adult”。此外“so many time”是不正确的量词搭配,time 作不可数名词应使用“much”或“a lot of”。“the serious reading”中“the”不必要,直接用“serious reading”。建议:改为“And now that I’m grown up I don’t have so much time to do serious reading.”
× So I spent a lot of time reading a workplace regulation.
✓ So I spend a lot of time reading workplace regulations.
× I prefer to read on paper because reading on the paper won't damage your eyesight and it also helps you concentrate.
✓ I prefer to read on paper because reading on paper won't damage your eyesight and it also helps you concentrate.
建议:去掉“the”,说“reading on paper”。
× I am having a hard time concentrating when I was reading on the screen, so definitely on paper.
✓ I have a hard time concentrating when I read on a screen, so definitely on paper.
因此改为“I have a hard time concentrating when I read on a screen”。另外“on the screen”更自然为“on a screen”。
× I would say when I am studying for a exam, reading a textbook or studying our workplace regulations because when you're reading these materials, the smallest mixed up could cause huge problems.
✓ I would say when I am studying for an exam, reading a textbook or studying our workplace regulations, because when you're reading these materials, the smallest mix-up could cause huge problems.
“the smallest mixed up”中“mixed up”用法错误,应该名词短语“mix-up”表示“混淆/错误”,并且用连字符。建议:使用“an exam”和“mix-up”。
× But I will be relaxed reading novels.
✓ But I will be relaxed when reading novels.
改为“But I will be relaxed when reading novels.” 建议:在表示条件或时间时使用“when”或改为“I relax when I read novels.”
× If I'm not interested in these materials, I wouldn't spend a lot of time reading them.
✓ If I'm not interested in these materials, I won't spend a lot of time reading them.
建议:真实条件句使用“If + present, will + verb”。
× And I was scanning and scanning doesn't feel like you're learning something or you're taking new information, it just you're don't know what to do.
✓ And I scan, and scanning doesn't feel like you're learning something or taking in new information; it just feels like you don't know what to do.
解释(简体中文):原句时态和人称混乱:“I was scanning and scanning doesn't feel...”应统一时态,描述一般情况用一般现在时;“you're taking new information”措辞不自然,改为“taking in new information”。最后“it just you're don't know what to do”语法错误,需改为“it just feels like you don't know what to do”。
